Northern Gas Networks

RJ Utility Services Ltd have been working with Northern Gas Networks since July 2003. RJ Utility Services Ltd are one of only four main contractors working with a term contract on the North of England Gas Network. After a competitive tender exercise in April 2009 the company were awarded a three year contract on our current arrangement through to December 2012.

The Civil Engineering & Maintenance contract encompasses a wide variety of works ranging from minor excavations and light maintenance to heavier civil engineering operations and pipeline construction involving streetworks, pipe installation, fabrication and connections. The contract currently employs around 65 people

RJ Utility Services Ltd provide all contract teams, plant, materials, supervision, management and any subcontractors, where necessary, to provide our client with a “one stop shop” solution regarding construction and maintenance issues. On occasions where contract values exceed certain parameters RJ Utility Services Ltd are requested to competitively tender against other approved contractors for works as “one offs”.

RJ Utility Services Ltd work very closely with NGN to maintain and constantly improve standards for Operational, Engineering, Health, Safety and Environmental issues. RJ Utility Services Ltd attends monthly contract performance meetings alongside fellow contractors where any issues are discussed openly and innovations and best practices are shared equally.

RJ Utility Services Ltd invoice and submit all works electronically under a system agreed and developed with the client. RJ Utility Services Ltd have developed our own training plan with NGN, and have our own trainers approved to deliver the Gas Industry Safety Health & Environment Passport to work scheme for both our own employees and third parties.

AGI Compounds

Various contracts to carry out Civil and Mechanical Engineering to upgrade, and refurbish pipework, valves, and concrete structures at “Above Ground Gas Installations”.

Pipeline Verification

Ongoing contracts to excavate down onto faults on large diameter, High Pressure cross country gas pipelines.

Pipeline Construction

RJ Utility Services Ltd have completed numerous “smaller scale” pipeline construction contracts up to 1000m in length and up to 24” in diameter utilising PE and steel construction methods. RJ Utility Services Ltd have carried out all works including traffic management, NRSWA noticing and welding procedure where appropriate.

Riverbank Stabilisation

Excavations and installation of gabions to stabilise river embankment at pipeline crossings on environmentally sensitive sites across North East. This involved close liaison with the Environmental Agency.

Security Fencing

A contract in the region of £300k to install new fencing around gas compounds. The fencing types ranged from welded mesh, palisade and expamet.

Gas Holder Tank Handrail Fabrication

A contract in the region of £500k to renew, extend and recoat steel handrails on a number of gas holder tanks throughout the North East and Yorkshire.
