Keeping the North East Connected: Delivering Openreach’s OSA 2.0 Contract with M-Group

In 2024, we signed an exclusive 7-year contact with M-Group Services to deliver their OSA 2.0 contract with Openreach across the North East of England.

We secured this deal following a proven 18 year track record of delivery on Openreach contracts, backed by our fantastic and adaptable management team, and our excellent working relationship with local authorities.

This contract represents a significant operational responsibility, covering all civils and maintenance works on the network across a sizeable and diverse region — from urban fibre rollouts to remote rural repairs.

Scope Of Works

The contract covers all repairs and maintenance on the Openreach network in the North East of England, with RJ Utility Services playing a key part in helping keep millions of their customers connected.

So far, our teams have been performing:

  • Ductwork installations
  • Jointing chamber and chamber cover maintenance
  • Blockage clearances
  • Cabinet constructions
  • Assisting in new site connections and SuperFast Broadband builds

RJUSL acts as a key delivery partner for both reactive and planned works, ensuring network resilience and seamless connectivity for Openreach customers.

Outcomes

As of July 2025, we’re completing almost 250 jobs per month, with our teams working diligently to see these high volume targets completed with zero compromise to quality. This year alone, as of June 2025, RJUSL has delivered over 1,400 jobs as part of the OSA 2.0 framework, including:

  • 351 duct installations,
  • 466 frame and cover replacements
  • 142 blockage clearances

The total projected value of this work has already exceeded £1,000,000, and we predict a similar volume of work over the coming months.

Our teams have also completed:

  • Larger duct works (up to 100m)
  • Reinstated joint boxes
  • Carried out main digs
  • Repayments works
  • Other complex civils tasks across the region.

We consistently meet the KPI targets set out in the OSA contract, and have proven our internal management structure capable of adapting quickly to sudden changes in workload. We aim to complete our works with zero impact on Openreach customers, and are proud to say we have achieved that goal across the year to date.

Our output on the OSA 2.0 contract has started strong, and while this is only the beginning of a long term contract, we’re certain that we will continue to provide this exceedingly high quality of work across the entire duration.
